Adult Basic Education

The Adult Basic Education (ABE) program provides instruction in basic reading, writing, and math.

The program serves:

  • Native English-speakers with limited literacy or math skills (below 9th-grade level)
  • English as a Second Language (ESL) transition students

ABE classes use research-based teaching methods and curriculum to build essential reading, writing, math, critical thinking, and problem solving skills using whole-group, small-group, and individual instruction.

Fundamentals classes are for adult learners who need to learn or re-learn basic reading, writing and math skills in order to meet work, educational, or employment goals.

Reading and Writing for English Language Learners classes provide instruction in reading and writing for non-native English speakers.

Math I-II introduce and work with the concepts of fractions, decimals, percents, ratio & proportion, measurement, geometry, data analysis, and algebra using a problem-solving approach, worksheets, and computer tutorials.
